What is Luxcon?
LuxCon is Luxembourg’s first national Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Convention. It’s a great celebration of Pop Culture, Luxcon is both a fair, a convention and a show that brings together all your favorite universes: cinema and series, manga and comics, gaming and board games, food and lifestyle…
What is a convention?
The aim is to get the fans and fan groups of Luxembourg and neighbouring regions together and celebrate Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror culture in its many forms..
What do you do at a convention?
A convention is a great opportunity to meet fellow fans, and like-minded people, learn about clubs and societies that deal with your areas of interest and celebrate fan culture in general.
A convention will have a dealers’ room market space where you can still your thirst for more stuff.
There will be interviews, round-table discussions, presentations, and hopefully you’ll be able to listen to, meet and get the autograph of one of your favourite creative talents.
Other interactive features of a convention might include a games room, workshops, readings, quizzes and competitions.
All in all a convention should allow you to enjoy your favourite books, TV-shows, films, comic books, graphic novels, bande dessinées and other elements from Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror with other people from your area, and hopefully make new friends.
Who is it for?
If you’re into something that might carry the label Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, you are the target audience. If you have friends that have similar tastes, it’s also for them. In fact whole families can enjoy the experience.
What are the opening hours of LuxCon?
LuxCon is open from 10:00 on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th April. On Saturday, there are a couple of events that go longer (Pubquiz & Karaoke Night, Literary RPG, Kommunioun screening) but you can expect vendors, artists and other exhibitors to close their booths around 19:00. On Sunday the event closes its doors at 18:00.

Luxcon takes place at Centre Culturel opderschmelz 1A rue du Centenaire L-3475 Dudelange, Luxembourg

Is there parking? Is it paying?
There are a couple of options for paid and free parking.
– There will be free parking next to the old iron works, entrance near the skatepark on the road into France.
– Similarly there will be free parking along, and at the top of rue Reiteschkopp.
– Next to the Match Supermarket, there is Parking on Place J. Fohrman and across the road from it.
– In the heart of Dudelange there is the paid underground Parking ‘am Duerf’.
I am a minor, can I access the Luxcon?
Entrance to the festival is authorized for minors.
We recommend that you accompany your child or ensure that they are accompanied by an adult. In any case, the organizer declines all responsibility if a minor enters the Luxcon without an accompanying adult.
Can I enter the Festival with a stroller?
Yes, you can enter the Festival with a stroller.
Are there smoking areas within the Festival grounds?
It is forbidden to smoke or vape inside the CC opderschmelz. It is possible to smoke outside the hall in the open space provided for this purpose.
Can my pet enter the Festival?
Entrance to the Festival is prohibited for animals, sorry.
Where can I withdraw money?
Several ATMs are available in Dudelange city center at about 10 minutes walk from the Festival. We advise you to bring cash as some vendors can’t be paid with a credit card.
Are there a cloakroom where I can drop off my belongings?
No. There is no cloakroom for the general public.
Can I leave the Festival and then come back?
You will have a wristband which will allow you to come and go as you like, don’t take it off until you know your exit is final.
If I lose something, who do I contact?
All lost items that are brought to the Festival Info Point are collected. If you left something at Luxcon, send us an email at info@sffs.lu
Is it possible to have lunch/dinner on the Festival grounds?
You can take advantage of the food and drinks offer on site.
Can I sign up to have a booth at LuxCon 2023?
Unfortunately the event is fully booked for this year. You can send us your details to be informed about the opening of the next round of registrations for 2024.
Are you still looking for volunteers to help out?
Yes, we are always looking for people who are willing to help. Let us know what you are interested in doing, or what your skills are and we will find something for you.
Tickets
How do I get tickets?
Tickets are only available at the entrance to LuxCon, there is no presale online.
What are the ticket prices?
Tickets are 5 euros per day. A 9€ Weekend ticket is available. Children under 12 (proof may be requested at the entrance) can enter for free.
Are the entrances free for people with reduced mobility?
People with reduced mobility must have a ticket to access the Festival.
Are there tickets valid for both days?
Only the weekend ticket is, if you bought a one day ticket and you want to come back you need to purchase another one on the following day.
Cosplay
Is entry free for cosplayers?
No. Like any other visitors, cosplayers must have a ticket to gain entry to LuxCon.
Do you provide changing rooms?
Yes, go to the Info point at the entrance of the Festival for more information.
Can I come with a mask?
Masks are allowed
Can I come with my face made up?
Yes, you can
Can I come with my “cosplay kit”?
Yes, you can bring glue, paint and make-up.
Am I allowed to bring accessories?
Yes, if they are made from a non-hazardous material.
What accessories are prohibited?
Metal accessories, Blunt objects and accessories and/or rigid objects that can be used as a weapon regardless of their shape and material, weapons replica and real weapons. It goes without saying that items that are not allowed according to Luxembourg’s laws are prohibited.
Only “fantasy” looking replica weapons are accepted if they bear no resemblance to real weapons. If they are made exclusively of non-hazardous materials (foam/cardboard/worbla) and have no metal parts.
Security
What is forbidden on the Festival ?
– Any weapon or replica of weapons (including toys). Examples: sabers/katana, swords, firearms, bats, truncheons, etc.
– Nerf or BB type guns are prohibited if they have metal parts. They are only allowed if they are plastic and not accompanied by ammunition.
– Sharp objects. Examples: knives, scissors, penknives, box cutters, Swiss Army knives, etc.
– Tools. Examples: pliers (cutting or not), hammers, etc.
– Explosive material, smoke bombs and firecrackers
– Bottles, containers, and glass objects, whatever their size
– Instruments and objects causing significant noise pollution (Examples: drums, megaphones, etc.)
– Alcohol and flammable products (Example: aerosol deodorants)
– Plastic bottles without caps
– Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and motorcycle helmets must be safely stored.
The list above is not exhaustive and the security agents on site will be the sole judges of the objects authorized or not to enter.
Photography
Will my photo or video of me be taken at the Festival?
Yes, it is possible that you will be photographed or filmed at the Festival by our team.
Can I take pictures and interact with cosplayers?
It is of course allowed to take pictures at LuxCon. Before you take pictures of cosplayers, or any other people, it is polite to ask them before you snap a shot.
You should not touch cosplayers or their accessories/costumes without asking them for permission. Most cosplayers will happily pose for shots with you. Please be respectful and nice to the cosplayers who put a lot of effort into their outfits. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
Do not take pictures of them, on breaks, eating, drinking, or in any other way ‘out of character’, without asking consent.
Workshops &
Gaming Sessions
Can I offer to host a gaming session or a workshop?
Of course, GMs, DMs, Narrators, Game-explainers and workshop leaders are always welcome to share their passion with the public. You can submit your information via the handy form that we put up every year: Right here
How do I make a reservation?
For sessions that require a reservation: You can register for a workshop or gaming session via our handy reservation page (Right here).
How is my reservation handled?
For technical and other timey-wimey-wibbley-wobbley reasons, our system is not automated this year. A member of our team will receive your request and send you a confirmation.
How do I cancel my reservation?
You can cancel your reservation at any moment until the convention. If you don’t present yourself at the desk at least an hour before the workshop we’ll free up your slot. Since there is no money involved, you don’t risk anything by not showing up, but it would be a sign of courtesy to drop us an email at your earliest possible convenience to cancel your reservation.
Do I have to check in?
Yes, you’ll have to check in at the registration desk at the entrance at least one hour before the workshop or gaming session starts or you will forfeit your reservation.
Cosplay Contest
How do I register for the cosplay contest?
To guarantee a spot in the cosplay competition, register via the cosplay registration page. Online registration is open until Wednesday 19th April, but registration on site is open until the Saturday of LuxCon (Insert Date) if there are spots left.
What do we need after your registration?
– The name and source of the character you are portraying. You have until the deadline to choose your character.
– We’ll need you to provide us with an audio recording you want us to play during your performance. IMPORTANT: Please name the file after your real name and surname (example: Martin_Schmit.mp3). All the usual audio formats will be accepted (mp3 mp4 aac etc.), no links to streams or youtube videos. You can give us your material on a USB stick on Saturday, the (Insert Date). Please ensure that the file has the right length!
– Images and reference material of the character you are portraying for the jury.
Q: How will I be judged? What makes up the score?
A four-person jury will judge contestants on costume, performance and authenticity. Higher scores will be awarded to costumes made on your own.
Q: What are the cosplay contest’s proceedings?
Cosplayers will be invited to show their costumes to the judges in a pre-judging session (1 hour before the event).
The contest will start with the performances, where you play and present your character of choice in front of the jury and the visitors.
An overall champion, a performance winner and two runners-up, as well as a costume winner and two runners-up will be determined, based on the scores, at the end of the competition.
Q. What can I win?
There are seven trophies to be awarded. In addition, prizes are provided by Cosplayshop.be. We’d like to thank them for their kind support.
Exhibiting
Q: Can anyone exhibit at LuxCon?
Yes-ish, LuxCon welcomes exhibitors from all the areas of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Culture. We welcome applications from vendors, artists, craftspeople, hobbyists and associations dedicated to one or more aspects of the above.
Q: How do I apply to exhibit at LuxCon?
Generally application windows open in autumn of the year before. You can always leave your information in the application form after the deadline, in case there is more space, or so we have your info when it comes to sending out invites for the following year. Presentations & Discussions
I’m interested in giving a presenation on an aspect of Science Fiction, Fantasy, or Horro cultures. How do I do that?
Nothing is easier than that, you can submit your idea via our handy form (right here) and we’ll get back to you.
I have a suggestion for a round-table discussion, but I don’t know if anybody else is interested.
Luckily there might be more of you out there, in this case we’ll pool the requests and we’ll make sure that there is a group to discuss the same, or similar topics for the panel. Just submit your idea in our form (right here) and we’ll take care of the rest.
