LuxCon - Weapons and Props Regulations

Quick Safety Rules

     

  • No real weapons
  • No functional projectile weapons
  • All weapon-like props must be inspected and peace-bonded
  • Props must be safe and free of sharp edges
  • No pyrotechnics, smoke devices, or open flames
  • Oversized props may be restricted in crowded areas
  • Always follow staff instructions

Allowed Props

 

Generally allowed if safe and part of a costume:

 

  • Foam weapons (EVA foam, foam latex)
  • Worbla or thermoplastics
  • Cardboard or foamboard props
  • Lightweight plastic props
  • Resin or rubber props
  • 3D printed props
  • Wooden props with rounded edges

 

Requirements:

  • No sharp edges or points
  • Must not be capable of causing injury
  • Must not launch projectiles
  • Must be clearly identifiable as a prop

Restricted Props (Prop Check Required)

 

  • Replica weapons
  • Large prop weapons (swords, scythes, axes)
  • Props larger than 150 cm / 5 ft
  • Props that resemble realistic weapons
  • Hard material props (wood, resin, thick plastic)

 

Conditions:

  • Must pass the prop safety inspection
  • Must receive a visible safety tag (peace bond)
  • The tag must remain attached during the entire event

Staff may restrict use in crowded areas.

Prohibited Props

 

Weapons and Weapon-like Items:

  • Real firearms
  • Real swords, knives, or sharpened blades
  • Functional airsoft, BB guns, or paintball guns
  • Projectile weapons capable of firing objects
  • Metal weapons with sharpened edges

 

Hazardous Items:

  • Explosives or fireworks
  • Pyrotechnics or open flames
  • Smoke bombs or smoke machines
  • Pepper spray or chemical deterrents
  • Tasers or stun devices

 

Dangerous Materials:

  • Glass weapon props
  • Metal spikes or sharp metal armor parts
  • Any item considered dangerous by security staff

These items will be confiscated or must be removed from the venue.

Cosplay & Prop Safety Policy

1. Purpose

The Cosplay & Prop Safety Policy exists to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all attendees, exhibitors, guests, and staff.
While cosplay is strongly encouraged, all costumes and props must comply with the regulations outlined below.
The convention reserves the right to deny entry to any costume or prop deemed unsafe, inappropriate, or disruptive.

2. Authority of Convention Staff

Convention staff and security personnel have full authority to enforce these regulations. Staff may:

  • Inspect costumes and props at any time
  • Request modifications
  • Deny permission to carry certain items
  • Require props to be stored or removed
  • Remove attendees if rules are not followed

All decisions are final.

3. General Costume Guidelines

  • No safety hazards
  • Movement and visibility must not be restricted
  • No damage to convention property
  • No sharp or dangerous components
  • Must allow safe movement in crowds

4. Costume Coverage & Decency

  • No full or partial nudity
  • No exposed genitalia, buttocks, or nipples
  • No transparent clothing exposing intimate areas
  • Footwear is required at all times

5. Offensive or Inappropriate Costumes

  • No hate symbols or extremist imagery
  • No harassment or intimidation
  • No explicit sexual content
  • No misleading impersonation of authorities

6. Hygiene & Public Comfort

  • No strong unpleasant odors
  • No staining substances
  • No liquids or materials causing slipping hazards

7. Prohibited Items

Weapons and Weapon-like Items

  • Real firearms

8. Allowed Cosplay Props

  • EVA foam, thermoplastics, cardboard
  • Lightweight wood, plastic, resin, rubber
  • 3D printed materials
  • Must be lightweight
  • No sharp edges
  • No functional mechanisms
  • No projectiles

9. Replica Firearms

  • No firing mechanisms
  • No compressed air systems
  • No removable ammunition
  • Must be clearly identifiable as props

10. Prop Inspection

  • All weapon props must be checked at entry
  • Approved props receive a safety tag
  • Tags must remain attached at all times

11. Oversized Props

  • Must not block exits
  • Must allow safe movement
  • Must not endanger others

12. Behavior

  • No reckless handling
  • No staged fights in public areas
  • No pointing props at others
  • No intimidation

13. Special Costume Restrictions

  • Masks may need to be removed for identification
  • Limited visibility costumes may require assistance
  • No sharp armor elements

14. Special Effects

  • No open flames
  • No smoke or fog machines
  • No pyrotechnics
  • No liquids or sprays
  • No glitter or confetti

15. Realistic Firearms Policy

Props that closely resemble real firearms may be restricted even if non-functional.
Staff has final authority on whether a prop is too realistic.

16. Prop Size Limitations

  • Props over 150 cm may be restricted
  • Must not block visibility or emergency routes

17. Consent and Respect

  • No touching costumes without permission
  • No harassment or intimidation
  • “Cosplay is Not Consent” applies at all times

18. Liability

Attendees are responsible for their costumes and props.
The convention is not liable for damages or injuries.

19. Compliance with Local Laws

All costumes and props must comply with applicable laws and venue rules.

20. Final Decision

Staff has the final say on safety and appropriateness of costumes and props.

21. Policy Updates

The policy may be updated at any time. The latest version will be available on the website.
